...my insecurities by getting real with myself, my mate, and God. What would taking bold risks for our faith look like? Ignite your relationship with God.
Resources for 2Risk
The Weekend
Mark Connelly brought a great message to MISSION for 2Risk, inviting couples to ask the question: What might happen if we took risks together in our faith? We followed Priscilla and Aquila through the New Testament, seeing how God used them mightily as they stepped out into risky situations for God--together. Watch or listen for more.
At MISSION, 2Risk took place in February. One hundred percent of our men picked up a special "For Men Only" packet, encouraging them to take a risk and make this Valentine's Day about something more lasting than chocolates and flowers. Inside the packet, they found an instruction sheet to register for the "Sacred Marriage" event at MISSION, along with a custom Valentine's card to give to their wife to invite her to the event.
The Events
"Sacred Marriage"
What if God designed marriage to make us holy? That's the question author Gary Thomas asks in his book, Sacred Marriage. MISSION invited Gary to come and share how changing our view of marriage's purpose can change our marriages themselves. More than 250 couples came on a Saturday night and left talking about how this new way of looking at their marriage would make a difference.
Half-day Spiritual Retreat for Couples
The second and smaller event MISSION offered was a half-day spiritual retreat for couples. Alan Fadling led couples in three hours of reflective reading, prayer, and silence--all practices that couples can develop as they learn to be alone with God together.
The Results
This igniter feels different than the others--it touches couples deeply and the response to being equipped in this area has been so heartfelt and huge.
The Stories
"I wanted to let you know what stood out to me from 'Sacred Marriage.' Having two older daughters who are married I was most taken with the concept that God is our father-in-law. It struck me exceedingly deep. Am I covering my wife in the same way that I want my daughters watched over? In honesty, I am not sure. Since this event, I have taken a more reflective approach as to how I relate with my wife. She is God's child and what I would expect from my sons-in-law, I must expect from myself."
